UConn's Aaliyah Edwards Suffers Injury in Big East Quarterfinal Victory
Edwards Leaves Game After Rebound Battle
STORRS, Conn. - UConn Huskies center Aaliyah Edwards exited Saturday's Big East quarterfinal win over Providence with an injury after taking an elbow to the knee in the first half.
Injury Details
The injury occurred as Edwards was fighting for a rebound on the offensive end with the Friars' Sarah Beal. Beal's elbow inadvertently struck Edwards above the knee, causing her to limp off the court.
Edwards was examined by team doctors and was deemed unable to return to the game. The full extent of her injury is still being evaluated.
Impact on Huskies
Edwards' absence in the second half forced the Huskies to adjust their lineup, with Ines Bettencourt moving into the starting lineup at center. Despite the injury, UConn cruised to an 85-52 victory over Providence.
Edwards' Status Moving Forward
The Huskies now advance to the semifinals of the Big East Tournament, where they will face DePaul on Sunday. Edwards' status for that game is currently unknown.
Edwards has been a key contributor for UConn this season, averaging 12.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Her absence would be a significant blow to the Huskies' chances of winning the conference tournament.
